Cole, who now holds New York's all-timestrikeout record in one season, joins CC Sabathia (2009-14), Mel Stottlemyre (1967-70), Lefty Gomez (1932-37) and Jack Chesbro (1903-06) as the only pitchers to make at least four consecutive Opening Day starts for the Yanks.

Orioles at Red Sox, 2:10 p.m

Kyle Gibson(BAL, 2e): Gibson's only previous opening day start came in 2021 with the Rangers, and it didn't go well. In fact, it is one of only two examples in the Live Ball era (since 1920) of an Opening Day starter allowing at least five earned runs while recording no more than one out, joining Toronto's Mark Bomback in 1982 . Despite this, Gibson bounced back to form his only career All-Star team.
OD-starter 2022: John Means

Corey Kluber(BOS, 6e):Kluber, who signed a one-year contract with the Red Sox in the offseason, will be the first pitcher besides Nathan Eovaldi to start for Boston on Opening Day since 2019. The two-time Cy Young Award winner is no stranger to winning the ball in his team's first game - making five consecutive Opening Day starts for Cleveland from 2015-2019, though winning 0-4 in those games with an ERA of 4.01.

OD-starter 2022: Burnes

Marcus Stroman(CHC, 3e):Stroman will make his third opening day career, but his first in a Cubs uniform. In two previous opportunities with the Blue Jays in 2016 and '19, Stroman went 1-0 and threw 15 innings with an 1.80 ERA. Kyle Hendricks had started the previous three Opening Day games for the Cubs.

OD-starter 2022: Jon Gray

Blue Jays at Cardinals, 4:10 p.m

Alec Manoah(TOR, 1e):José Berríos signed the opening day start for the Blue Jays in 2022, but Manoah will get the ball for Toronto this year, at Busch Stadium. Manoah's sophomore season was brilliant, with a 2.24 ERA, an All-Star selection, and a third-place finish in AL Cy Young Award voting. He is the 10th different Opening Day starter for Toronto since 2010.

Zandig Alcantara(MIA, 4e):Alcantara opens the Marlins' season for the fourth consecutive year, surpassing Josh Johnson and Josh Beckett for most opening days in club history. The right-hander is coming off a dominant 2022 season, winning his first NL Cy Young Award, struckout 207 batters in 228 2/3 innings and threw six complete games with an MLB-high.
OD-starter 2022: Alcantara

German Marquez(COL, 3e):Márquez started for the Rockies on Opening Day in 2020 and '21 before Kyle Freeland did last season.
